Owls

As you know our next animal to learn about is OWLS!  When we voted last (between fish and owls) there was only 1 vote separating them.  I am super excited about this theme because unlike catfish there are TONS of resources!!!  We have only been learning about them for two days and we've already learned SO MUCH! :)  Check it out...
This is our CAN HAVE ARE chart!  After we read our book each day we fill in the
new facts we've learned!

We decided to learn about ALL owls but when it is time for construction,
we will MAKE a Barn Owl! :)

On Tuesday we watched these GREAT owl videos!  I hope you enjoy!

Valentine's Activities!

This week we have been getting ready for Valentine's Day!  Check out some of the fun things we are doing (more to come)!
We started with our Valentine Bear Glyph.  This is the most extensive glyph we've done thus far!

Cooper and Quin

Abby

Mrs. McGuire also came on Monday to help us decorate our Valentine boxes!

Madeline, Akaylin, and Ally

Andy

On Tuesday we began our "Sweetheart Candy Graph."  We have to color in the hearts (remembering our sight words) and then graph them!

Meet our Heart People!
For this activity we focused on cutting skills!  They had to cut out ALL of the body parts!

Estimation
We are going to estimate how many candy hearts are in the container.
The person who gets the closest gets to have them!

I found this precious book on a fellow teachers' blog and had to borrow it!
We compiled our pages and made a precious class book!

Happy Early Valentine's Day!

Catfish and Counting! :)

This week we finished constructing our catfish!  The kids did an amazing job and he is proudly hanging outside our door!
We signed up for jobs!  What did your child do?

On Friday we finished up everything from the week so Mrs. Kimbrell pulled a game out of her Investigations Math Series.  We worked with a partner, each grabbed one handful of unifix cubes, and then counted, measured, and recorded!

Author Visit--Michael Shoulders...

Today we had a VERY special treat!  Visiting author, Michael Shoulders, came to AEEC!  We were able to go to the Tiger's Den for his amazing performance!  I hope you enjoy the videos--I can tell you he is the BEST author we've had at AEEC thus far!!!
Also, you can check out his website: http://michaelshoulders.com/.
Our sweet class waiting patiently.

Sorry it's hard to see, but this is a picture of all of the books Mr. Shoulders has written.

Michael Shoulders

He was quite entertaining!

He performed a magic trick (see video below).

I learned something very interesting and new.  Every book (and magazine) is printed on one large piece of paper, and then cut!

He even let a friend in Blue pod dress up!

He "rapped" a song for us at the end!

You absolutely MUST watch the videos just to get a glimpse of what a great time we had!

The magic trick!

Where is Mr. Shoulders from?

Explaining how books are printed on one large piece of paper and then cut up.

Too funny!

Our rap song!  You can also hear it on his website!

We had a great time!  Hope you are having a great Tuesday!
Love,
