Our hamster is home!!!!

Peter, the hamster, is home again!  He fell for the peanut butter last night!  He has a small injury on one of his back feet, so he is under close observation this weekend at the Kimbrell household!  Hopefully all will be well! :)

WANTED: ONE RED AND WHITE HAMSTER!

Thursday morning when we arrived at school we discovered a catastrope in the science center!  The top of the hamsters cage was taken off, the snacks were on the floor, and other things had been moved on our counter!  But the worst part of it all--OUR HAMSTERS WERE MISSING!  There was a small trail of hamster evidence in the closet between Mrs. Rahe's room and ours, and in her room we found some rice in the floor.  We looked EVERYWHERE!  Sadly, we could not find them. 

As you know, our hamsters Sassy and Peter, are a part of our classroom family!  We love them so very much!  The kids are so upset!  This happened once before last month (but only one hamster was out) and it took us a week to find Sassy.  Each day, we would set out a new food in our "traps" (buckets with stairs leading up to them) and we finally caught Sassy with peanut butter on day 7!  So, of course this time we started with peanut butter.  On Friday morning, Sassy was FOUND!!!!  She fell for the peanut butter trick yet again! 

Peter is still missing as of Friday afternoon!  The kids and I are hoping that he will fall for the for "trap" tonight! :)  We will keep you updated!

Tadpoles...

This week we ordered tadpoles for our classroom!  We received them on Tuesday!  The kids were so excited to have new class pets, and even more excited to watch them turn from "FISH" to "FROGS" as they like to say!  They have almost doubled in size throughout the week, and the back legs are out!  It is my hope that after watching this fascinating process, they will want to learn all about frogs!

They came in a box, ON ICE! :)

AEEC Trike Ride

This afternoon, in preparation for our AEEC Trike Ride next week, we had a pep rally!  PTA did an amazing job of getting us so excited about raising money for our school!  PTA even revealed the "prizes" for partipating/raising money:

• All children who participate will receive a Trike Ride T-Shirt (if you wear this to AEEC's Family Fun Night, you will receive free admission!
• The pod that raises the most money will receive an ice cream party!
• GRAND PRIZES for the top boy/girl fundraiser in the school- A BRAND NEW BICYCLE! 
• If we reach our school goal of 25,000, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Folmar will spray paint their hair!  :O)
• Our classroom will receive 10% of what our class raises!!!!! 

I hope that you will all have a great time raising money for AEEC!  I know that the kids are going to have a great time Friday!

Apples, Apples, Apples!

I think our apple adventure has been my most favorite thing to learn/teach about in quite some time!  We have had so much fun learning as much as we can about this fruit!

As a culminating apple activity, we made apple pies!  I was so surprised that almost everyone gobbled theirs up in record time!  If you would like to make them at home, here is the recipe:

• Canned biscuits
• Canned apple pie filling
• Cinnamon and sugar (for the topping)

Roll biscuits into large circles (about 6 in.) and wet edges of dough with water.  Add apple pie filling, fold over and press edges with a fork.  Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture.  Bake for 15-18 minutes at 400 degrees! 

I hope you will try to make some at home, they were so yummy!
