This week...

This week we've been doing several different things.  Instead of making three different postings, I am combining them all into one! :)
Enjoy!

On Tuesday, in observance of "International Day of Peace," our entire school made pinwheels for our "Pinwheels for Peace" project!  You can read more about this international project at:
Here is a picture of them in the shape of a peace sign (sorry it's upside-down)! :)

We graphed our eye color by using a pie chart!

The GRAND OPENING and ribbon cutting ceremony for our writing center...

And last, but not least, here are some pictures of our first letter from our kindergarten pen pals in Michigan!  Mrs. Malero sent us a letter introducing herself and her class, and "husky pride coins" (their school mascot) as a treat!
Marcus, Amelia, and Ally located Michigan on our map and we measured how far it is from Alabama!

Our letter!

Happy Friday!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Have you filled a bucket today?

Today we began a new "program" in our classroom!  This summer as part of our school's professional development, we read the book How Full is Your Bucket?, after discovering the kids' version of the book, I knew I had to implement it in our classroom!

Today during our theme time, we read the kids' version!  We discussed how to be "bucket fillers" and not "bucket dippers."  During center time we labeled our "buckets" and added them to our wall beside the smartboard! We also brainstormed a list of how you can be a "bucket filler," here is what the kids came up with:
  • Having nice manners
  • Sharing with a friend
  • Helping a friend when they get hurt
  • Making someone feel better when they are sad/mad
Beginning tomorrow (Tuesday) we will be able to add "drops" into our classmates' buckets.  When a friend is doing one of the above listed things, they can come to me and ask for a drop (sparkly puff ball) to put in that friends' bucket!

As we continue this throughout the year, we will add more ways to add drops into our buckets!  This is another way to help build community within our classroom family!  Once someone's bucket is full, we will empty the drops out and they will get to add a sticker to the outside of their bucket!

Have a great day being a "bucket filler!"

Home Living's Grand Opening!!

Each week we vote on the next "work station" (i.e. "center") to be opened.  After we vote, we spend the week learning all about the work station (what you can do, things you can make/build, and different ideas of how to play in the work station).  After we understand what you can do while you are visiting the w.s., and we learn the proper way to clean up, we can have our grand opening ceremony!  This gives the children a foundation for their learning and explorations and ownership and pride for our classroom!
Last week we had our grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony for the home living work station.
The two helpers for the day were able to be the "ribbon cutters."
Without further adieu...

Class picture...

Today was our FIRST day in a about two weeks where we were all at school!  So I was able to take our new class picture!  We did a sweet shot and a silly shot!  I hope you enjoy!  They are too precious!

We are all the same on the inside...

During our "All About Me" study, we conducted our very first science experiment!  We paired up into groups of two and were all given a different colored egg.  We were able to investigate our eggs and make a web of the ways they were all different.  Finally we were able to crack our eggs open and find out that they were all the SAME on the inside!
Here is a picture walk through our experiments!
Happy Friday!
